Cardiovascular Diseases We Treat

At Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates, our board certified cardiologists specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiac diseases. Here is a list, not all-inclusive, of some of these conditions we address with descriptions of each.

  • Coronary artery disease— A disease caused by a buildup of plaque in the coronary arteries, which supply the heart muscle with blood. This leads to reduced blood flow and decreased oxygen supply.
  • Heart failure— This is a chronic condition where the heart is unable to pump the blood as efficiently as it normally should.
  • Cardiomyopathy — This is a disease of the heart muscle where it becomes thick, stiff, enlarged, or weak. This can lead to heart failure.
  • Valvular heart disease— This is a disease of at least one of the four heart valves. The valve becomes either stenotic (the valve becomes narrow or tight due to hardening) or regurgitant (the valve does not close tightly and it leaks).
  • Cardiac arrythmias— Here the heartbeat is irregular, too fast, or too slow.
  • Peripheral vascular diseases— This involves narrowing or hardening of blood vessels that move blood to and from the arms and legs (more typical in the legs).
  • Hypertension related heart disease— High blood pressure is the cause of this form of heart disease.
  • Carotid artery disease— This disease is the buildup of plaque in the carotid arteries. This can lead to reduced blood flow to the brain, leading to strokes.
  • Dyslipidemia— A medical condition where the blood has an abnormal level of cholesterol or lipids. An elevated amount is called hyperlipidemia.
  • Cardiac diseases with diabeters, aging, and pregnancy— Heart abnormalities complicated by other conditions such as diabetes, aging, or pregnancy.
  • Pre- and post-operative evaluation— We provide clinical cardiovascular evaluation prior to surgery to assess an individual’s risk of undergoing a particular surgery (pre-operative) or following an operation to review an individual’s cardiovascular condition and subsequent management (post-operative).

Whether you need our expertise for treating any of these cardiovascular diseases, or whether you simply have questions about our services or to make an appointment, please call us at (908) 788-1710.

Alert

At Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates (HCA) we are taking a proactive approach in safeguarding our patients to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, we urge you to call the Hunterdon Medical Center (HMC) patient hotline at 908 788-6440 or contact your primary care physician as soon as possible. In addition, we ask that, if you believe you have potentially been exposed to someone who is demonstrating symptoms, or has been diagnosed with COVID19, that you contact our office and speak with a staff member who will ask you several questions to determine whether you should be seen in our office, the emergency department or by your primary care physician.

We are scheduling patients currently utilizing the CDC, Cardiology Society and the Department of Health recommendations (sanitizing, social distancing and screening patients before they enter the practice). We are always available for your urgent questions and will continue to have a cardiologist on call 24/7.

In the meantime, we ask that you keep yourself informed by logging on to the CDC (WEBSITE) for the latest information ensuring that you follow their recommendation in reducing the spread of coronavirus (avoiding close contact with others as much as possible).

We all must do our part to flatten the curve and stall the spread of this virus.

As information changes in our communities, the state of NJ and the CDC, we will continue to keep you informed.

Wishing all of our patients good health.
